Welcome to the May 2024 edition of the 5GMED Monthly Digest, bringing you the latest updates as we push towards a sustainable 5G deployment model for future mobility in the Mediterranean Cross-Border Corridor.

Countdown to the Final Event

We are gearing up for the biggest milestone of the 5GMED project: the final public event on June 27th at Castell de Peralada. This event marks the culmination of four years of dedicated work to develop a 5G deployment model for future mobility in the Mediterranean Cross-Border Corridor.

Highlights from IoT Solutions World Congress

The Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), a 5GMED consortium member, showcased the Smart-Eye sensor system, developed under the 5GMED project, at the IOT Solutions World Congress, held from May 21-23, 2024 in Barcelona.

Smart-Eye uses AI models like YOLOv4 to identify road objects, enhancing real-time vehicle safety. Equipped with a Telematics Control Unit (TCU) and V2X communication stack, Smart-Eye can quickly transmit risk alerts to infrastructure and nearby vehicles. Its dashboard provides drivers with live risk data and the positions of connected vehicles.

Spotlight on EuCNC24

The 5GMED team, in collaboration with the 5G-ROUTES Project, is gearing up for the 2024 EuCNC & 6G Summit, taking place from June 3-6 in Antwerp, Belgium. This year’s theme, “6G: From Vision to Reality,” signals a global shift towards 6G technology.

We are excited to announce that i2CAT will represent the 5GMED project at the 2024 IEEE 99th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2024-Spring) in Singapore from June 24-27. This prestigious conference gathers experts from academia, government, and industry to discuss the latest advancements in wireless, mobile, and vehicular technology.
