“4YFN will help to reach new opportunities for 5GMED project scalability”
5GMED will participate for its first time at the 4YFN. The European innovation action with partners from the telecommunication, mobility, and research sectors aims to bring a sustainable 5G deployment model for future mobility in the Mediterranean Cross-Border Corridor. Raul Gonzalez Prats, the project coordinator, shares his expectations about the 2022 4YFN event and the project’s impact on the future of telecommunication and mobility.
How do you think the 4YFN start-ups’ environment will benefit the project?
In the next decade, mobility will experiment with a digital transformation that will modify how people move in the territory and how the vehicles interact between them, the infrastructure and the people. This new paradigm includes open infrastructures to facilitate new business models and opportunities for new services and players. 4YFN it’s the perfect environment to enlarge the 5GMed project’s vision to ensure that the future of mobility will follow the train of technological growth.
5G technologies are changing the telecommunication industry! Which are 5GMED technological challenges?
5G cross border issues have a lot of challenges that need to be solved for connected mobility (vehicles and Trains) and service continuity. Many things happen when you change from one network to another in the cross border when you travel in a connected vehicle; 5G roaming, service orchestration and slicing between networks, etc are some of them from the network perspective. Low latency requirements, Edge computing, AI, Security, sustainable communications, and synergies between road and rail are some of the challenges in the 5GMed project.
Where can we find you during the 4YFN?
On the first day of the event, I will be attending the 5GMED policy-making workshop, and the 5GCroCo presentation results panel (ICT-18 H2020 project) at the MWC stand (4G100). During the rest of the event, I will be between the 5GMED stand (6D23) to meet with the interested stakeholders and the Cellnex booth (4B150).
About 5GMED
5GMed will demonstrate advanced Cooperative Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) and Future Railway Mobile Communications System services (FRMCS) along the “Figueres Perpignan” cross border corridor between Spain and France Enabled by a multi-stakeholder compute and network infrastructure deployed by MNOs, neutral hosts, and road and rail operators, based on 5G and offering support for AI functions.
