5GMED Project demonstrates the potential of 5G in cross-border scenario
In February 2023, a small scall pilots’ demonstration of the 5GMED project were held in the Circuit of Castellolí and the LFP facilities. The purpose of this demonstration was to showcase the project’s progress to the European Commission delegation.
The project aims to develop and implement 5G connectivity in the Mediterranean basin, to improve communication networks for a variety of industries. As part of this effort, several consortium companies tested innovative solutions related to remote driving, road infrastructure digitalization, follow-me infotainment, and railway communications.
The results of these tests represent an essential step forward in the development of cutting-edge technology and demonstrate the potential for 5G to transform industries and society as a whole in cross-border scenarios:
- Valeo tested remote driving capabilities for cars in specific situations.
- Autopistas, an Abertis company, tested the digitalization of road infrastructure, including an emergency message relaying and obstacle detection at borders.
- Atos tested the synchronization of video streaming across various devices in an ANADOLU ISUZU bus for follow-me infotainment at the border.
- COMSA tested the collection and management of key performance indicators (KPIs) for future railway communications at LFP Perthus premises in collaboration with partners.
