ATC, 5GMED’s tourism mobile app developer

Founded in 1987, ATC is an Information Technology Company offering solutions and services targeting specific sectors incl. the Media, Smart Cities, Banking and Retail Sectors, Utilities and Public Sector Organizations as well as horizontal solutions focusing on Content Management, Enterprise Software, Web Applications, Human Capital Resource Management, and Mobile Applications. The activities of the Company span among several countries in EU, Eastern Europe and CIS countries, as well as the Balkans. Central to the Company’s strategy is the conduction of vivid Research and Development, focusing both on improving current Products and Solutions, as well as on exploring new technologies for future growth. The ATC Innovation Lab carries more than 25 years of expertise in Research and Development. The focus is on innovation aspects, which are often overshadowed by research concerns, and on turning promising ideas into concrete and robust products, in a cost and time-efficient manner.

ATC will be one of the demonstrators working on a tourism mobile application, can you explain it?

A tourism mobile application is a complete solution for turning a trip into an experience through personalized tours, in order to offer a mixed reality (MR) mobile application for visitors to virtually explore suggested and customized thematic tours of different contexts.

Can you give insights about the mixed reality mobile application?

Our solution will allow visitors to access physically and virtually predefined tours, combining social media content of places and points of interest. The resulting MR application will point to the users the way to explore a tour physically and virtually and, for each node/place of visit of the tour, to get informed with useful personalized information that has been collected by social media.

Define the importance of 5G technologies

5G wireless technology has raised high expectations in communications aiming for significantly increased data speeds, substantial capacity expansion, improved reliability and service continuity, and much lower latency which is useful for applications that require real-time feedback. 5G will enable a sharp increase in the amount of data transmitted over wireless systems due to more available bandwidth and advanced antenna technology. The connectivity benefits of 5G are expected to make businesses more efficient and give consumers access to more information faster than ever before. This includes telemedicine, smart cities, intelligent vehicle communications such as V2V and V2X, and IoT/autonomous systems supporting critical infrastructure.

Explain the impact of the project in the short term and long term

5GMED will have a serious impact on future mobility in cross-border situations. In the short term, the project aims to demonstrate how a multi-stakeholder 5G infrastructure featuring a variety of technologies can be used to jointly deliver CCAM and FRMCS services. Furthermore, 5GMED aims in driving next-generation core networks in the 5G standardization for automotive/railway environments, making it noticeably advanced from today’s networks.

In long term, 5GMED aims to become the reference project for CCAM and FRMCS deployment in cross-border scenarios and will be used across European corridors. Towards this direction, all the stakeholders will investigate how to trigger new investments by exploiting the technical outcomes of the project through sophisticated business models that involve all the contributors (i.e., MNOs, road and rail operators and neutral hosts, SMEs, public authorities).

How does this project contribute to cross-border collaboration between countries and institutions?

For the implementation of the project stakeholders from several European countries has been brought together. On the one hand, concerning the “Barcelona – Perpignan” cross-border section of the Mediterranean corridor, local key partners like MNOs and road and rail operators are involved. On the other hand, partners (research centres/institutions, SMEs) with expertise in key domains (e.g. Artificial Intelligence) have been considered to complement the latter. Hence, 5GMED is multi-disciplinary oriented and will contribute a lot to new collaborations between countries and institutions of various sectors.
