Welcome to the March 2024 edition of the 5GMED Project Monthly Digest, where we bring you the latest updates and developments in our quest for a sustainable 5G deployment model for future mobility in the Mediterranean Cross-Border Corridor between Spain and France.
📣 5GMED at Mobile World Congress 2024
The 5GMED project participated in the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, represented by consortium partners including Cellnex Telecom, Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunications de Catalunya (CTTC), IRT Saint Exupéry, i2CAT, Mobile World Capital Barcelona, and Nearby Computing.
With over 100,000 visitors from February 26th to February 29th, the event provided a significant platform for 5GMED to showcase its initiatives to a global audience. Notably, CTTC also presented the SmartEye technology, developed as part of the 5GMED project, to representatives from the SNS.
🎙 Podcast Interview with 5GMED Project Coordinator
@TechArena interviewed José Lopez Luque, the coordinator of the 5GMED project and Senior Innovation Programme Manager at Cellnex.
The discussion centred on the EU-funded 5GMED initiative, which aims to test service resiliency across borders and facilitate the development of low latency use cases such as autonomous driving. José López Luque provided insights into how Cellnex is preparing to offer efficient and scalable services in anticipation of broad deployments in 2024.
📝 Highlighted Scientific Papers
As the 5GMED project approaches its conclusion this year, we are pleased to present highlighted scientific articles authored by our consortium partners:
Demo: Interoperability between Cellular and V2X Networks (802.11p / LTE-PC5) under a Cloud Native Edge Scenario
This paper presents a cloud native infrastructure architecture for vehicular communications that guarantees the interoperability between cellular technologies (4G/5G), and specific Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication technologies, such as LTE- PC5 and IEEE 802.11p wireless communications standards. Such interoperability is demonstrated through the implementation of an Edge Infrastructure where a vehicle equipped with one of the aforementioned radio access technologies, sends cooperative awareness messages, and such messages are received in vehicles provisioned with different wireless technologies.
A DL-based Estimation Probability Approach for VRU Collision Avoidance
This work presents a system aimed at detecting potential collisions among vehicles and between pedestrians and vehicles to reduce traffic accidents. Utilizing deep learning and Monte Carlo algorithms, the system incorporates trajectory prediction and collision probability estimation techniques to enhance road safety in assisted/autonomous driving scenarios.
