The 5GMED project shared a booth at the 3-day event with the ICT-53 projects 5G-Blueprint, 5G-Rail and 5G-Routes

The 5GMED project was presented at the 15th ITS European Congress 2023 in Lisbon by Francisco Vázquez, Technical Manager and V2X Research Line Manager at i2CAT Foundation, in a workshop on 23 May as part of the Technical Programme Automated, Cooperative and Connected Mobility.

5GMED also attended the congress in the Portuguese city together with the ICT-53 projects 5G-Blueprint, 5G-Rail and 5G-Routes, in the shared booth 13A, a space where partners could exchange ideas and challenges, as well as network and benefit form knowledge-transfer conversations.

About the 5GMED workshop at ITS 2023

The second day of the congress, on 23 May 2023, Francisco Vázquez, from i2CAT Foundation, presented the 5GMED project in a workshop split in two sessions, in which Jorge Pereira, Project Officer from the European Commission, introduced both sessions, on 10:30h and 11:45h. The workshop was part of the Technical Programme Automated, Cooperative and Connected Mobility.

The workshop description was the following:

With the start of CEF2, a seamlessly connected TEN-T network is being realised, opening the opportunity to create international automated mobility services. Within this SIS, we investigate the opportunities that arise through deployment within CEF2 and how these can be best taken. Within this session, we aim to expedite the usage and deployment of seamless international mobility. We do this by investigating the current and near-future state of technology, the availability and roadmap of connectivity on the TEN-T network, and how new mobility products and services can apply the technologies. The session starts with overviews of the developments of cross-border connectivity as implemented in ICT-18 by a speaker from 5G-MOBIX (project confirmed, speaker TBC) and in ICT-52 by a speaker from 5G-Blueprint (confirmed) who will discuss the observed challenges of crossing borders using seamless connectivity, the recommendations to developers on the best use of the current state of technology, and the potential brought by upcoming standards. The innovations above are progressing towards EU-wide deployment within the CEF2 program. A speaker from the CEF2 CSA GUIDE (confirmed) will present an overview of the available and planned seamless connectivity corridors from CEF2 is given by a speaker from GUIDE, allowing developers and automated fleet owners to prepare for their arrival and to be able to gain benefits from the availability as soon as possible.

About ITS 2023

ERTICO – ITS Europe and Lisboa Câmara Municipal hosted the 15th ITS European Congress in Lisbon, Portugal, from 22 May to 24 May 2023 at the Lisbon Congress Centre.

The 3-day event was a gathering of gathering stakeholders in infrastructure, 5G, and innovation in the Smart Mobility sector. They welcomed public authority representatives from cities and regions throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa, and from around the world, since as key decision-makers for mobility plans, cities and regions’ authorities give a lot of weight to understanding the needs of the local public and private stakeholders.

The ITS European Congress offered them the possibility to learn about opportunities and challenges as well as the benefits and potential solutions related to Smart Mobility, and 5GMED and the ICT-53 projects couldn’t miss it to keep discussing about future mobility disruption with 5G and other technologies.
